Stereo Juggernaut – Shutdown! EP (2016)
Stereo Juggernaut, a band that have just shown up on my radar, are about to release their latest EP on the inimitable Armalyte Records label. Shutdown! is a riotous affair, this London band takes no prisoners release that aim straight for the jugular.
Having toured in the past with Combichrist, Orgy and Mushroomhead, the band will shortly embark on a UK tour with none other than The Birthday Massacre. Times are good for Stereo Juggernaut and the latest EP is about to back up their credibility. Driven by seemingly never-ending energy, this EP is a huge breath of fresh air. Completely uninhibited and unrestrained, Stereo Juggernaut tear through 6 tracks with a forceful vigour not heard enough of these days.
Opener “Devoid” showcases the electro-punk ensemble perfectly, distorted guitars, punky vocals, programmed beats with plenty of electronics throughout. It’s an incredible track that should have a ton of crossover appeal. “Goodbye” is a blistering affair yet still manages to convey an element of darkness and melancholia throughout. “Empty Eyes” is built for the pit, heavy as hell. So good. “Boats And Ladders” is a killer, dark, industrial rock song. Organic and raw sounding, but still having an excellent production value, with the guitars sounding particularly acerbic. “Annie” starts chilled before the drums erupt and a huge soaring chorus then explodes. Unreal. Closing the EP is title track “Shutdown!”, another awesome punky, industrial rock track with a big chorus.
Overall, Shutdown! is a fantastic EP of synthesized industrial punk rock. Highly recommended listening, get this blasting ASAP.
